Questions about new venue

Since it's at a new location this year, anybody have any info on the place? Is the camping/stage area still close together? Is there still a family camping side? Parking close to camping? Is there still going to be a bar there?

And I'm hoping they set up the 2nd stage like they did last year, not in the beer tent but right outside of it.

and add The Breakfast to the line up!!!!

All valid questions...all good ones. I am going to compile these and any others that people post here over the next week or so and will bring them to the promoter to see if I can get them answered.

Camping Situation

This may have been answered already but..........

Drive-Up Camping? or Park your Car in a lot and walk to a campsite?

If not drive up camping, how far are the lots from the campsite?

i'd like to know if there's going to be some sort of shade at the venues... like i felt was missing at the second/new stage at moe.down last year, and was missing at summercamp this year (they had the posts up for the fancy, pretty wisps of fabric that provided no shade, might as well have some shade so we don't die)... keep the moe.rons alive!! ;)

12am Curfew

there was an article posted stating that a curfew was/is set in place so music can't go past 12am I believe?

Will moe. be able to play past 12am?

will there be

a 3 hour wait to get into the venue like there was at furthur? Will the RV section be closer to the music? Will the wooks be segregated and hearded into New Turwookistan? Will there be ninjas for security doing full cavity searches?

Re: what about thursday night?

I second phreedwoman's question. What arrangements are being made to accommodate early arrival at the venue and by early I mean beginning Thursday afternoon. It is a moe.down tradition that people, both RVers and Campers begin arriving Thursday and await the opening of the venue on Friday. Will this be possible for Gelston Estate? This was very easy at Turin as it was off a small road that had grass fields on either side which allowed easy parking without blocking the road. As I understand it, the road leading into Gelston Estate has significantly more traffic and also had drainage ditches on either side so there's no where outside the venue to folks to line up early. Without a plan this is going to be a logistical nightmare for everyone.

rv camping

All the photos I saw of the gelstone estate were hills. So is there flat area? how far is it from the main stage? I have a pop up camper and level ground is crucial. There was about 300+/- rv's at the down last yr at $50 a pop. So Rvs should get a hook up, if possible, with location. Sorta like we did at turin. Yes I know we are using more space but cmon

Answers so far...

-There will be a Family side for camping.
-There will be shade.
-No drive-up camping allowed.
-Parking is not more than a 1/4 mile from camping area.
-Concessions will be available in camping area.
-RV section and camping are both within a 1/4 mile or less of stages depending on where you camp.
-Plenty of flat camping /RV space.
-RV parking is $65, no hookups.

Thursday arrivals will be handled the same as Turin. There is an ample supply of land to stage cars off the road.

~ Yup. That's how it's been done in the past.

Add me to wanting to know about a map, the 12pm noise ordinance and the traffic getting in. Also, several of us are staying at local hotels & such. I presume parking is one fee for the entire weekend. Is this correct? Should we expect traffic issues every day?

I imagine traffic going in on day one will be horrible. Furthur was 3 hours to travel about 1.5 miles. Should be much better after the first day.

I see nothing about when the venue will actually open...Friday morning? Thursday night?

where o where art thou moe.mod?

Q1: Free Water? Will there be water spigots available as there were in Turin? This is somewhat of a big concern as we need to prep to bring extra water if necessary. moe.down.com says there will be rustic showers. are these portable showers brought in by a company (ie Nateva) or pre-existing?

Q2: Stage setup? Will it be 2 main stages next to each other like Mtn Jam, Nateva, etc.? Or will there be 1 main stage & a side stage in a separate location (ie. Turin)? moe.down.com says "rotating between 2 separate stages all weekend".

Q3: Noise Ordinance? I for one can not see this being anytime before 1am. But others seems to think its 12pm. The sub woofers will be bumpin throughout the campgrounds eitherway!

Q4: Fireworks? We will have them again right?

Passed the new batch of questions onto the promoter and am patiently awaiting reply.

You pay for RV parking as you pull into the lot - not in advance.

Artists will perform according to posted schedule - which will be posted soon! As for bands turning into pumpkins at midnight...has that ever happened before? ;)

RV parking discrepancy

moedown.com says $50 per RV. post above from moe.mod says $65 per RV. Some people will be very angry with a $15 price difference upon arrival.

Weird metal/glass rule...

"No glass or metal containers (this means no glass bottles, only cans allowed)."

What the heck does this mean? Aren't cans metal? Are we allowed cans, canteens, kegs, etc, or not?

Schedule should be up by Friday. Map is being worked up currently.

Apologies, I received wrong info about the RV price. Correct price is $60, not $65. The web sites are being changed to reflect this.

I am adding an INFO/RULES/FAQ sticky to the top of this forum, taken from the org. It's the latest and most complete info we have at this time.

Hmm, truavatar - you've stumped me. That metal/can rule is weird, but it's been in place for the last decade and no one has ever had issue with it. I am thinking metal of the aluminum can variety are fine, but metal of the keg and tank variety are not.

Handicap / RV camping.

Our group has been trying to get this question answered for the last 2-3 months and we haven't gotten any replies to emails, so I thought I'd try here.

We have a pop up camper and will be traveling with someone who is handicapped. She cannot camp on her own and needs to be able to lock up her medications. (We have a pop up, she tents) In years past we have been allowed to put up a tent in our RV spot. I know that there is typically not any tents allowed in RV - but with this situation being a bit different they've allowed us in the past.

Will we run into problems with this at the new venue? (She has the nec. documents to "prove" her disabled status)

Thansk in advance for any insight!

Cans/Kegs

I have brought kegs to the .down for the past few years and never had a problem. Cans and kegs seem to be the way to go, just no glass.
I mean really, whos going to cut up a keg?? Have fun with that, Ill sit and drink and watch you try. Ha.

Cans/Kegs/Metal

I have never noticed the "no metal" thing before.

moeron1984, I've also brought kegs in the past and had no problem. Thats why I was confused by this.

moe.mod, can we get a definite answer on kegs, in particular? They're so much less wasteful than hundreds of cans, but I don't want to show up with one if I'm going to have to leave it in my car.

i have a question:

will there be any real bathrooms at all? i know there were two in the lodge last year, so, i'm just curious.

will there be hand washing stations?

also, is there a place to dump your RV like there was in turin that we could do on the way out?

thanks so much.

I've been told kegs fall under the metal rule, truavatar.

My best advice to you is...the more things change, the more they stay the same. Yes, moe.down is in a different location. But most of the same rules apply that have applied for the past 10 years in Turin. Much of the staff and procedures will be the same. I'm not condoning it... I'm just saying that you have just as much chance of success or risk of failure this year as in prior years.

Penguin, all I have heard is "portable toilets". No word on indoor facilities. Yes, I believe there will be handwashing stations like at prior moe.downs in Turin.

Checking on the RV dump...

is that the vendor who was selling glow sticks? this is just nitpicky, but for a green-thinking band/festival, i just think it's a little funny that vendors should be selling glowsticks, which basically become, nearly instantly, garbage

meh, whatever... all in good fun

truemoeron, i presume you pick up all the glowsticks you throw?

yeah, didn't think so

that's my only complaint about glowsticks

(thankfully, i wear glasses, so a glowstick to the eye isn't much of a concern for me) ;)

i'm not trying to be a no-fun-nancy, but there's very little good i can see coming from glowsticks... they are pretty and shiny for a few hours, but other than that, they are instant garbage... just not in line with a green festival, to my mind

i'm not saying people shouldn't be allowed to bring them, i just don't think they should be sold AT the festival, ya know?

to elaborate, not only are they a waste, but last year at the .down it was way past annoying all the kids crawling around up near the stage on the ground picking them up to throw them again... WHILE THE MUSIC WAS PLAYING... so i'll be a no-fun-nancy :-)

Andrea, we are all set on volunteers this year at moe.down.

FYI, I am AGS - anti-glowstick - as well. I don't know if we can get a total ban, but we could certainly ask the vendor who sold them in the past not to. Let me talk to the powers that be.

I believe they will have a parking pass/hang-tag to differentiate day parkers from those who stay at the festival the entire time.

I expect the band will make an announcement mid-week next week regarding Sunday tickets.

Oh, and tell the other forum they can expect a map before this weekend. ;D

Donation to charities that moe. supports

moe.mod, thanks for all your info so far. I was wondering if you might be able to help me out with the below request as well. Below is a copy of an e-mail I sent out to the band and topper a couple of weeks ago. I'm in a position where I might be able to help some moe. affiliated charities. I've been reading about the monks, and I've heard some of them are not doing so well. I know this forum may not be the the place for this, but it's devastating to me to hear what they are going through, so please bear with me everyone. Thank you moe.mod...
_________________________________________
I am looking for some recommendations for local charities in which a company I am working for could donate to in a couple of weeks. The two that I had in mind based on my exposure to them through you was the Burmese "shelter" in Utica and the autism center. I was hoping you could provide me with a little bit of information on these charities that I could provide to the company.

Let me give you a quick bit of background info. I am working on the construction of a commercial scale wind farm project in Herkimer County, NY, stretching from just north of the Little Falls exit on the Thruway, up towards the Adirondacks. The turbines will look a lot like the ones on one of your Transamericans CD's, only a lot taller. These will be the tallest turbines in the U.S. to date, standing approximately 450 feet tall, and produce renewable energy for about 40,000 homes. I think you'll be able to see the first few erected from the moe.down site this year, all the way across the mohawk valley, which will be pretty cool.

Anyway, I work for an environmental consulting firm called Environmental Design and Research in Syracuse, NY. I am serving as the environmental monitor of construction for the wind power project. The developer of the project (and my client) is Iberdrola Renewables, a global renewable energy firm. Most importantly, their general contractor in charge of construction is called Mortenson Construction...they're also a huge, global company, but are based out of Minneapolis...(they just built the new Twins baseball stadium).

In this morning's meeting, Mortenson mentioned that their firm is doing a company wide charity campaign in late August, all around the world and specifically in the local communities they are working. The project manager asked for people local to the area (such as myself) to give them some ideas of where to contribute. As I mentioned, the possibility of helping your cause specific to the Burmese shelter and autism center were the first that came to mind. I think it would be great if Mortenson chose one or both of these entities. It probably goes without saying, but if it helps, I am a huge fan of moe., and my wife and I have not missed a moe.down or snoe.down in years. I attended the viewing of VJ Burma last year, and donated what I could afterward, but obviously Mortenson would be able to make a much more substantial donation than I. I also have some loved ones who have been diagnosed with autism, so anything we could do to help these causes would be amazing.

I can talk to you about this at moe.down, but I think at that point it will be too late. They mentioned late August as a time they would like to make the donation.

Let me know what you think when you have a chance, and thanks for all that you guys do, music and otherwise.

Cheers,
Brian

Handicapped Parking

Thanks in advance moe.mod,

I to have been trying to get an answer on something,
I am missing 1 leg and I injured my other good ankle recently and I was hoping that they have Handicapped parking closer by or could get some assistance with my gear.

Thank you

Fisherray - I have confirmation that there will be a special (closer) section for handicapped parking - vehicle must possess handicapped plates or handicapped parking tag.

A tractor with a flat-bed wagon (similar to what was offered during prior years in Turin) will makes stops in parking areas and drop offs in the camping area.

I've updated the Rules/Info to reflect these and other issues addressed in this thread, but feel free to spread the word. Thanks.

Sorry drtyjrz - no bikes allowed this year.

BRIAN - CHARITIES

I emailed Al your post (he is registered here on the forum but probably too busy to keep up with all the talk) and he thought your idea was a great one.

The Kelberman Center in Utica (autism developmental center) & All Burma Monks Alliance (monks non profit, primarily used for legal funds to free other monks still captive in Burma) are the 2 charities you are referring to and the ones that moe. has supported in the past.

If your company is in need of more info, I would suggest using a site like guidestar.org, which gives unbiased reviews as well as financial info (990s, etc).

Will check into the ATM availability - moe.down has no control over the fees, however!

will the Patriots tighten up their offense and play a more solid 4th quarter this year, or is their recent acquisition of offensive lineman Quinn Ojinnaka proof positive that their time and energy are strictly focused on defense in 2010?

"A tractor with a flat-bed wagon (similar to what was offered during prior years in Turin) will makes stops in parking areas and drop offs in the camping area. "

So there will be shuttles fromt the parking area to the camping area? After scaling the map it looks like most campers will have to lug their gear anywhere from .25 to .75 MILES.

Slurry...

If we're discussing the Patriots on the third Wednesday in January and it's not raining outside, then...yes. I believe so.

KamelReds...

I have been told there will be the same tractor shuttle scenario as in prior years. I cannot tell you how frequent the tractor will come by and how long it takes. But yes, there will be some mode of shuttling for those who want and need it.

I haven't seen the new site yet, but was told by the promoter the magic number was a quarter of a mile or less for most everything.

If you are on facebook, make sure you "like" the moe.down festival site...starting next week, the crew is going to start posting behind-the-scenes photos as they build the stage, etc and perhaps that may help people gain perspective as to how the place is set up.

Clarification on no metal rule

This will be my first Moe.Down, so needed to ask a question about the no metal rule. Does this ban apply to aluminum and steel water bottles (Sigg, Kleen Kanteen, etc.)?

Thanks!

Yes, there will be an ATM on the premises.

Danruss, pretty sure the Sigg, etc water bottles are A-OK.

not to complain

because i had an absolute blast at moe.down but
"a quarter of a mile or less" is completely not even close to being correct information...Luckly i brought a wagon, but because we were misinformed there were a lot of people who did prepare properly because of the misleading information. Just something you might want to warn people of if moe.down is going to be set up the same way at the same place next year.....

No complaints here...

BUT... roads paved?, maybe? Maybe a few more shuttles running? These old bones aren't as quick as they used to be

Please don't shoot the messenger - I was told by the promoter "a quarter of a mile or less" when I asked. Not having been up to the site before the festival, I had no way to tell whether this was accurate, and had taken his word for it.

Please know that Topper and the band are in the midst of very in-depth discussions about the site, what the likes/dislikes were, about the positive/negative feedback they've received, etc with the sole intent to make it better for next year.

Still says "Parking is 1/4 mile or less from camping area."

"Parking is 1/4 mile or less from camping area."

Is this actually true this year? or is the website still misleading people? I'd like to know if i have to bring my wagon again this year. Or purchase a new one. I bet there are a lot of 1st timers at moe.down this year & if they layout hasn't changed then quite frankly i find that information to be extremely misleading & deceitful. I think the good paying fans need to be informed properly in order to prepare for the haul. If i never went to gelston before & read 1/4 or less I wouldn't bring a wagon. But thats just me, i'm sure there are hundreds of other people that would think the same. I just feel as though the people need to properly prepare.

Thank you,

KamelReds, some of the parking and camping has been reconfigured this year, and they (promoters) are still standing by the 1/4 mile estimate. But as you know and I know, even the shortest distance from parking to camping was full of hills, so it is wise (and advisable) to bring a wagon, and I will have the admins update the info on the web site to reflect that. Thanks, as always, for your feedback.

So no camping by the car? That sucks. it is soooo much better when you get to camp by your car. But unfortunately, i was at all good and what happened there was tragic but parking by cars do make it easier on the camper.

Didn't know about RV passes, how can I be sure I get in?!

I purchased two 3 day passes on May 4th as we have come to moe.down for many years and always buy early. At the time I purchased my ticket RV Passes were not available online, you had to purchase at the gate. Today (9/1) at 7:30pm I found out you were offering RV passes online on as of 8/1. I had no idea this was happening and if I had known I would certainly have bought one ASAP; now it is too late and the site says I could be in danger of not even getting one after I drive 3 1/2 hours with my husband and 14 month old child?????!!!!!! Let's just say I am more than a little distraught about this. If I could leave early to ensure I got a pass I would. But, my husband must work all day on Friday so earliest we can leave is 6pm. Is there anything I can do to ensure I don't drive all the way there with my child and then get turned away in my RV due to lack of space?
